Comments: I wasn't planning on renting more films (the four below are the first movies I've rented in months), but after walking around my local Family Video I decided that tonight should officially be Shitty Horror Movie Night (especially when they're two for a dollar). I haven't had one of those in a while. So anyway, I picked up Skeleton Crew based solely on the fact that it had an awesome DVD cover (it's very similar to the poster above). And for the most part, the film wasn't half bad (I was thinking along the lines of a two-star rating). That is, until the last act kicked in (I'm about to ruin most of the ending for you) and Skeleton Crew becomes laughably bad. The film's about a crew making a Hostel-type picture in an abandoned mental institution. The director's gone mad, and he's starting to kill everyone. After running around for a bit, the characters find footage of themselves - what we've seen throughout the film - in a studio in the attic. Thus, they logically conclude that they're currently in the horror film Skeleton Crew - the one the viewer is currently watching. And they all accept this as fact without any doubts (they even start making decisions based on how horror films work). The scene shows the characters watching that exact scene the viewer is watching with them in it on a monitor; it's like the shittiest Charlie Kaufman film ever made. The quote in the scene at the end of the credits sums Skeleton Crew up nicely: "That sucked. There wasn't even any tits in it!" (This was said in a theater as the film ended, and the mad director was there, ready to kill again. Oh noes!)
