Comments: The Messenger is a strong and emotional film, and definitely one of the best (and most overlooked) of 2009. It was extremely well-directed, and featured many long cuts where the actors were free to truly perform. I was also rather impressed with Woody Harrelson (who was nominated for an Oscar). It depends on the role he's in, but I usually feel underwhelmed by his performances (he was the weakest part of No Country for Old Men). However, I've really enjoyed him lately (he was solid in Zombieland as well), and The Messenger is one of his finest roles to date. Highly recommended.
