Comments: My mind was a bit preoccupied when sitting in the theater to watch Neill Blomkamp's District 9. The first half of the film was both interesting and entertaining, but I wasn't able to fully immerse myself in the proceedings. However, the story picked up in the second half, and was unbelievably good. District 9 is a top-notch film and one of the best I've seen this year. 2009 may be the year of the science fiction film, as both District 9 and Star Trek top my list so far. Added to the fact that I haven't had the opportunity to see Moon yet either, and I'd say sci-fi is having a bit of a comeback. I was in the theater with mostly older people, and I heard grumblings of the film being "horrible," which saddens me but doesn't surprise me. Films like District 9 are what we need in cinemas today, not mindless drivel (although I am often guilty of watching such drivel). I heard that Blomkamp is tossing around ideas for a sequel, and I am totally in favor for it. The ending leaves room for another film, which I would welcome with open arms. Long live sci-fi!
